We felt it would a good idea for those attending our meetings to review them so you can learn more about the social evenings held at Grantham Bird Society.

This page will have meeting reviews given by our own members, they will detail what they thought about the speakers we welcome to our meeting venue and also what they also feel about our club in general and also not forgetting what the members thought about the speakers themselves. Latest meeting review will be at top of page.

Soup Supper & Judging comp ~ December 10th meeting

20 GBS members sampled a soup & supper evening to finish off 2009, this fine feast was again generously supplied by Secretary Brian Cragg & his wife Barbara. All members of GBS attending thanked Brian & Barbara for their fantastic gesture.

Let the feasting begin!!

All the members really enjoyed a great spread of christmas fare and had a good laugh as usual with all the banter being of a good nature. After all chins were wiped around 30 birds were judged in a fun and informal way. All 4 sections were represented in varying numbers with Budgies, Foreign, Canaries and British birds being seen. More information on the birds shown, winning birds, owners and the overall best judge on this evening will follow soon on our shows page.

The superb glass trophy, recently presented to GBS by Frank's family in remembrance of our member Frank Orrey, seen below, was presented to the best bird in the chosen section by the club president of 2009 Jim Moreton at our recent members show.

Tom Fountain's great Fife Canary was chosen and you can see above the first plaque which is now fitted onto the base of the glass trophy, this will no doubt be a popular trophy to win in future shows at Grantham Bird Society.

2010 Agenda & Auction ~ November 20th meeting

Well over 20 GBS members enjoyed another laughter filled evening with the 2010 agenda being agreed in record time! The auction of avian 'bric-a-brac' went well also with 95% of goods kindly brought in by members being sold to raise funds for the club. Stuart Randell was the auctioneer on the evening and did an excellent job in pushing the auction along, he was supported by Jim Moreton.

Steve Nesbitt presented the updated GBS club website to the members showing all the photo galleries from the recent Open show. This was well received by all at the meeting.

On a serious note the family of recently deceased GBS member and 2006 GBS President Frank Orrey were in attendance to present the club with a memorial trophy to remember Frank by. The superb glass trophy, seen below, will be presented to the best bird in the chosen section of future shows by the club president of that year.

The Frank Orrey Memorial Trophy

All GBS members would like to thank Frank's family for this gesture and we are sure that this excellent trophy will keep the memory of Frank going in the club for many, many years to come.

"I am a foreign bird keeper myself but I still enjoyed Barry's talk on Yorkshire Canaries immensely. His love for the Yorkshire Canary was very clear for all to see on the night and he put his knowledge across to our members in a great way" ~ Norman Chapman
