A
little background on Trevor and birdkeeping history
It
was some twenty years ago that Trevor first bought a budgerigar
called Joey and I taught it to talk. Sadly Trevor lost his wife
due to cancer in 2004 and he bought another talking budgerigar.
To
this present day this bird is fit and well and talking is head
off. It was at the same time Trevor decided to start breeding
birds. The 2004 bought talking Budgie belonging to Trevor can
be seen below.

He
joined the Newark & District Cage Bird Society and was helped
by some very good members of the club who got him set up with
some birds. One member built Trevor 12 breeding cages and an
inside Flight. Since then he have added 14 more breeding cages
and a big outside flight, he has heaters in two of the sheds
and lighting, which comes on with a timer switch when breeding.
Also fitted is a good security system with alarms and C.C.T.V.
Trevor
and Grantham Bird Society
Trevor joined Grantham Bird Club in 2007 we are glad
to report he feels that he was made very welcome and he now
enjoys meeting and mixing with club members from both Newark
& Grantham. Trevor is now Chairman of Newark & District
Cage Bird Society (www.newarkcbs.com).
Trevor
feels that if anybody out there is thinking of starting out
breeding and showing birds, his advice would be to buy your
stock from a experienced show breeder that as been winning,
and keep to his bloodlines when you want to bring in an outcross,
to improve your stock. Go and buy new stock from the same breeder
again.

Left
you can see Trevor outside his fine array of bird quarters.
Left
to right is the Bengalese birdroom, old summer house
converted to a mix of breeding / holding cages and inner
flight and last but not least the aviary with small
internal flight.
The
table and chairs are perfectly placed for those nice
days when a cuppa can be enjoyed while looking and listening
to all the birds in Trevor's keep.

Trevor first started
out breeding Zebra Finches but it was not long before
I fell in love with the Self Chocolate Bengalese. He
decided to sell all his Zebra Finches and then did lots
of research and found a top class winning show breeder
who lives up in Scotland.
He then bought
three pairs of Self Chocolate and two pair of Pearl
Bengalese from him, these were top class birds and quite
expensive but Trevor feels he has ever looked back since
buying this initial stock.
His birds have
been winning at members and open shows since 2005.

Above
left and right you can see a selection of Trevor's excellent
Self Chocolate Bengalese.
At
the time of the image top left was being taken this
bird was in a cage all alone to enable Trevor to confirm
his feelings on the fact this bird was a cock bird.
In fact within seconds the bird began to display continually
proving Trevors feelings correct.
The
Self Chocolate Bengalese is Trevor's favourite and aims
to improve his stock even further in the years to come.

In
here are kept among others Hecks Grass Finches that Trevor
bought from somebody who sadly had to finish bird keeping
because of health problems.
This
stock was also from a top breeder and Trevor has since
bred these in an open flight and has also been winning
with these birds, in open shows. |

The
last building Trevor has is the aviary where he houses
birds including Star Finches, Canaries, and Bengalese.
This
arrangement is as you can see a nice and roomy flight
with more than enough room for all the birds to enjoy
and co-habit happily.
